The Ballantyne extension of the Lower McAlpine Creek Greenway has recently been integrated into the Carolina Thread Trail, enhancing the regional network of trails that connects 2.9 million residents across 15 counties in North and South Carolina. This latest addition spans approximately 1.5 miles of scenic trail within Ballantyne before seamlessly merging with the existing greenway.
The trail's thoughtful alignment highlights several noteworthy sites, adding depth to the outdoor experience. Along the way, hikers and cyclists can explore The Bowl, Stream Park, The Amp and Ballantyne’s Backyard. Incorporating the Ballantyne extension into the Carolina Thread Trail expands accessible outdoor spaces for the community. This development encourages physical activity and fosters a deeper connection with the region's natural and recreational resources.
With this new addition, our community can enjoy extended trails that offer both urban and natural landscapes, showcasing the beauty and diversity of the Carolina Piedmont region. As part of the Carolina Thread Trail, the Ballantyne extension contributes to a larger vision of promoting health, conservation and community engagement.
