Announcements
Hawkers, anticipated to open early 2025, will join 11 other previously announced businesses, including Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, at the new mixed-use retail, dining and entertainment district in South Charlotte.
Known for its carefully curated menu and uniquely memorable dining experience, the concept will combine elements of the streets of Asia and Charlotte in its 5,163-square-foot space. This will be Hawkers’ first two-story rooftop location. The restaurant plans to have dual bars; one on the rooftop and another downstairs with views into the kitchen. The upstairs bar will be enclosed with garage doors to make it open-air optional while the rooftop dining and lounge space will be open-air with a partial canopy overhead. Guests can enjoy a quaint upstairs karaoke space with screen doors for privacy and a sweeping view of The Amp Ballantyne™ and the campus’s many parks and green spaces.
Additional features will include an interior mural that will span two stories within the restaurant’s stairwell, a mural on the exterior façade, and picnic-style seating on the downstairs patio. Guests can also expect the classic Hawkers aesthetic features including variable, stylish lighting, an open kitchen, hanging flowers, arches, neon touches, posters and more.
“In 2019 we opened our first Charlotte location in the heart of South End, and every day since then, the Charlotte community has been really supportive of our brand and our team,” said Kaleb Harrell, CEO & co-founder of Hawkers Asian Street Food. “Because of the trusted relationship we've built with this community, we were extremely selective when deciding where we wanted to open our next Charlotte location. We explored options for almost five years, and we are confident The Bowl at Ballantyne™ is the perfect spot for our second Queen City home. The vibrancy, the walkability, and the overall energy of the community is a great fit for our concept.”
The restaurant’s name was inspired by the street food vendors that co-founders Kaleb Harrell, Allen Lo, Wayne Yung and Kin Ho, encountered during their travels across Southeast Asia. Famous for hollering at passers-by to hawk their small plates, these street vendors are revered throughout Asia for their generations-old recipes using locally sourced ingredients. Hawkers Asian Street Food is a Pan-Asian concept that serves small plates as they are ready, all matched with a carefully curated craft cocktail, local beer, wine and saké list.
“Hawkers’ unique Pan-Asian offerings are a perfect complement to the tenant mix at The Bowl,” said Lauren Britt, leasing manager for Northwood Retail. “As we round out leasing at The Bowl, we are being very intentional in our selections and are thrilled to have such a beloved concept joining us in South Charlotte.”
Hawkers Asian Street Food will be located at 15220 Bowl Street, Suite 102. To learn more about the restaurant and its food and beverage offerings at The Bowl, visit eathawkers.com.
